For the past few days, we've been receiving rain non-stop, and it's been wonderful!
Slumbering to the natural sound of rain ceaselessly pouring on the tin roof & waking to the beginnings of rain showers...Because we couldn't go outside, it was a great opportunty to spend more time "making home" as my Mother says!
~
I use vinegar/baking soda to deep clean the chopping board...
~
~
My sister & I baked cupcakes together...
I've been making so many pumpkin/apple/sweet potato recipes, that I was happy to taste just good, old-fashioned vanilla!
2 cups flour
1.5 cups sugar
2.5 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup cream (or milk)
1 TBsp vanilla extract
2 large eggs
Combine wet ingredients...add dry ingredients
Pour into paper-lined muffin cups; Bake in 350 degree oven for 20 mins.
~
We baked quite a bit of cupcakes! I tripled the recipe :)
~
How do you like "Cupcake Mountain?" hehe
I didn't make all these for dessert, they're to be frozen for later!
~
~
I individually wrapped each one, sealed in container, then a freezer bag. To make it airtight, I used a straw to withdraw the extra air in the bag...
~
Potato Soup w/ salad
Here's my favorite Italian (House) dressing I created last year...
1/2 cup each: olive and vegetable oil
1/4 cup each: red wine and apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp each: pepper, onion powder, ginger powder
2 TBsp powdered/fresh Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup water
1.5 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp dried oregano
1.5 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp dried oregano
5 tsp sugar
2 tsp salt
~
2 tsp salt

A delightful read:

I love reading books written 75+ years ago--
All the books on this table are copy written circa 1840-1930

ugh!I hate the rain.
lol!
Although it stopped us from being outside, it was nice to just turn on the record player & focus on the inside of the cottage for a while.
Thanks for commenting, Lucy!
It looks like the rain didn't stop ya'll from having fun! I happen to love the rain, I love the sound of it, and the smell before and after it rains! Also a couple days spent inside due to rain always brings all of us in my house closer! (considering we don't have much of a choice! just kidding)
What a beautifully peaceful day. I love all those cupcakes and your pretty table cloths. You make me want to go redecorate my entire kitchen!!
Thanks for sharing~ Cinnamon
Mia, I'd happily send you all of Ireland's rain, but I know you'd quickly return it.
We have on-off periods were it rains each day, sometimes several times a day and it always seems to rain when I am going to or from the bus, when I have a lot of bags and always seeps into my footwear.
This summer it rained non-stop for 2 weeks and as I don't have a car and my bus stop being a mile away, I was trapped indoors feeling melancholy.
So, a parcel of rain in the post for you!
Your comment on my blog was very kind Mia, but the RUA art isn't my work!
I love it when it rains and the sun is shining! Going to sleep with rain makes me feel safe and comfy in my house :).
Those magazines sound really interesting!
What a lovely day! And we seem to have the same taste in magazines ~ I have Mary Jane's Farm and every Victoria magazine from about 1995. =} My dear husband is so good to overlook the amount of space it requires to store them...=)
The cupcakes look delicious, and I love old books too, especially ones with some type of inscription. I enjoy reading them. It's interesting to realize that when they were written they were about what was then modern times, but now we read it and it's "olden days". I love that. Thanks for sharing. I always love visiting your blog.
Blessings,
Marcia
I can imagine the smell of the cupcakes...

Blessings, Christina
Mia,
I could be wrong...but I thought that it said Chase not Chloe. I first thought Chloe...but I don't think there is an 'l'. Just thought I would give you my opinion.
Beautiful post!

I have quite a large collection of past copies of Victoria Magazine. Every month, I pull out all of the back issues for that month and flip through them throughout the month. I also have the entire collection of Cottage Living Magazine, and a rather huge pile of Country Living Magazine and Colonial Homes Magazine.
Have you read any books by Gwen Bristow!? I don't know the year of their publication but Celia Garth is about a girl that becomes a spy in the Revolutionary War... and Calico Palace is about the California Gold Rush, then there is the Plantations series, and Jubilee Trail, which I believe is about the Oregon Trail. All great books. Out of print now.
Mm, those cupcakes look delicious!!
I like rainy days when I get just get home-stuff done like that.
I too am a collector of antique books - I had pleanty of oppertunities to collect them too when I worked in a large used-book store.
My treasure being a very old copy of Grimm's Fairy Tales illustrated by Maurice Sendak. :)
Have a good rainy day!

Hi Mia,
Maybe if you have enough rain you could forward some of Lucy's excess on to us. Our state in Australia has been in drought for about four years and I have vowed never to complain about rain again in my life. It's scarey when there is none. Mia, my idea of bliss is going to sleep with rain on a tin roof. Lucky you!
Delightful post Mia!
I greatly enjoy rainy days!:)
Blessings...
McKenzie~

Dear Mia
Thank you so very much for the invite to visit today. I feel a welcoming even though we have not met. I love to see you helping with the teaching of your Brother. Homeschooling is a wonderful blessing for us here. I too love photography, vintage life and reading all the classic favourites, baking and simple living. I can transport myself to living in places and era's of our past. Are you famliar with Tasha Tudor...I am sure you would love reading about her life too. Mia I look forward to visiting again.
A happy day to you
