I have certainly seen the benefit of choosing to learn 'back to basics' skills and gentle economy from home. It may not be a popular idea, but I'm thankful I have this opportunity. It has been a blessing to decide this course early on and stick with it. To me, success and fulfillment is measured by so much more than what modern society praises.

There are so many rewards to living a simple and quiet life.
I store my seeds in a binder meant for cards {heh..hey it works for now!} The clear sleeves make it easy to somewhat organize. I went ahead and ordered more seeds online for 2 reasons: More bulk organic options for a better price ;) Also I like to support other gardeners who save their seeds as well. So lately we've been direct sowing the flower/veg. seeds in different areas.
~I soaked the pole beans in mason jars before planting out.
~~*~Heirloom tomato plants in the morning sun~*
~ My parents in the garden together-- as my Mother waters the newly sown seeds, my Dad prepares the soil for the next area. Goodness, my row of shasta daisies have grown so much--this will be their second year. The blooms are beginning to form now ;)
~A peek into the kitchen.. as my sister prepares biscuits to go with dinner.
~~I dug up a dozen wild roses to transplant to the front garden..tomorrow I'm going to try to find more! Can you ever have too many roses?~
I've been out of town for the past fortnight to attend a church event. (It was lovely!) But now that I'm back to the everyday schedule of homelife, I'm realizing how important the responsibilities here at the Cottage are-- especially now that the weather has warmed up ;) So I look forward to sharing more updates with y'all soon.
Ah, the comforts of home.

I love reading your blog. Your photos depict a romance and beauty to everyday tasks.
It all looks so lovely! And, ah, wild roses! After a devastating miscarriage that nearly took my life, my husband returned from work during my recovery and gave me two beautiful wild roses he found in the woods he was working in. They were perfectly formed, beautiful, pink and so fragrant! Those roses meant so much to me at that time.
Oh, and remember, when those hips form, you can make a delicious jelly and a nutritious tea out of them!
The rest of the garden looks so nice, too! I love seeing all that growth. It helps me look forward to my garden this year (which got snowed on last night!).
Mia, love seeing all of your photos. Those strawberries look so yummy. Your right, living a life in the country is wonderful, I'm so glad I have been blessed to do so. God Bless!
I can't wait until the fruits and vegetables start growing here. Our plants are still very tiny--Our last frost date isn't until the beginning of next month.
Your strawberries look delicious.
Oh thank goodness! Another post from you! I always look forward to reading what you and your family is up to! In my hectic life, readig about yours is truly a balm to my soul. It reminds me to slow down, take deep breaths and just relax.
Happy Easter Weekend!
Hello from a new reader! Your blog interesting and lovely. I so enjoy hearing about your sweet style of living. Have a wonderful Easter. :)
I am so glad to see a new post.
I could just reach out and grab those strawberries. Mmmmm
I love the cardigan. It is a beautiful shade of green.
I just finished a nursing shawl for a friend at church and am working on a matching baby blanket.
My tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, and herbs are happy. My peppers aren't. I think I need to mix up some epsome salt water to perk them up.
It is so dry here. We haven't had rain in weeks. They say that it is the driest it has been since 1917. We are praying for rain, but not lightning.
God Bless and have a wonderful Easter Weekend.
Such lovely photos of your home!
Your sister's cardigan is lovely! I am going to look into that pattern.
So lovely to see Strawberries - her in Lancaster County we don't get Strawberries until May! But we love them!
Blessed Easter to you and your family Mia!
Your posts have been missed. Lovely as always. Your sister did a great job on her cardigan.
This was a beautiful update and just what I needed this morning. Thank you so much for sharing these bits of your life. You certainly are blessed, and I love that you know and appreciate it!
Lovely post as always. I love the cardigan your sister made I will have to look for that pattern my daughter would love it her birthday as would I.
You gave me a wonderful idea for the wild roses, I think when hubby comes home we are going to go digging. :0)
Love Erika
I have just started to follow your blog, you are so blessed with a loving family, beautiful home life and amazing photographic talent! These entries have given me inspiration to slow down in my day to day. A goat farmer myself, I am longing to see your family take on a goat or at least some chickens;have you ever thought about getting live stock? The weather is so lovely, your garden is so full of greenery already, we are still trapped in the grasp of winters mud and frost up here in Canada. Keep up the good work of showing the world how full life is when one chooses christian family values over selfish worldly wants. In Christ,
Elizabeth
Hello Mia! I love your blog. Your photos show such beauty, and bring such joy. To paraphrase John Denver - Praise God I'm a country girl!
Blessings to you and yours this Eastertide x
The cardigan is lovely. I really enjoyed my visit today.
I simply love reading your blog, Mia. I am always pleased when I see a new post from you. I also agree that country living is the way to go. I have lived in the city all of my life and have patiently been waiting to move to the country. I very often drive to country parts of my state just to get away! You are very correct in saying that it is certainly NOT boring. Being in the quiet country gives an overall feeling of serenity and gives me clarity and peace that I am not able to get in the city. Hopefully I'll be moving soon!
Also, Your sister's cardigan was absolutely beautiful.
God Bless
Oh, I love reading your blog Mia! Thankyou so much for all you share.
Happy Easter! xxx
What beautiful pictures, Mia!
It is comforting to know that there are other young ladies that are choosing to stay at home and show the blessings of such a wonderful calling. Thank you for keeping up this blog.
Love in Christ,
Miss J.
My mother wanted you to know that she enjoys reading your posts as well, the beautiful pictures, the different styles of dresses, etc.

Such a joy reading your blog, seeing your photos! Thanks Mia! :)
Dear Mia,
Thank you for blessing us with another glimpse of your sweet life; I know that it may not always be "picture perfect", but you do with your blog as we should all do with our lives; focus on the best, and the rest passes quietly away.
May your garden be bountiful this year.
Love,
Marqueta
It is a treat to enter here and enter your pretty world, Mia!
I so enjoyed this latest post with all the garden updates. Simplicity, beauty, nature's delights... thank you for sharing your world!
Your sister's cardigan looks beautiful. I love your photographs, they are so dreamy.
Oh, thank you for posting again, Mia. You made my day!
The photos are so lovely! It's refreshing to see a different way of living! It isn't a lifestyle the Lord has called me to, though I sometimes think it would be nice to retreat in that way for a while! It's a blessing that you get to enjoy it with your fam :-)
I would love to grow grapes and strawberries though, delish!:-)
Happy Spring Mia!
I too enjoy walking barefoot around the yard. :) I like to close my eyes and listen to all the different bird songs...very uplifting and calming at the same time. God is good!
Your sister's hand-sewing is very good....and by lamp light too! Wow!
I like fresh mint in my iced tea. A nice summertime treat.
Good for you for sticking with the slower paced, 'back to basics' lifestyle....living with less stress and worry...better health...and multi-talented. Sounds good to me! :)
Beautiful post. You are so talented. We just planted lots of concord grapes. What do you use them for besides jelly and syrup? Thanks! God bless, Liz
Lovely post as always, and you're right, you can never have too many roses!
Thank you for sharing your spring with us. And I would have to agree, you can never have too many roses.
Blessings,
elizabeyta
I love the vintage feel of your family's cottage and your family seems to get quite an impressive yield from your gardening efforts!
How many plants, trees and crops do you grow and what are you able to enjoy from them? Is 'self-sufficiency' a goal your family aspires to?
Thanks again for a lovely blog.
Blessings,
This Good Life
Mia,What a joy to read about you and your loving family. The life that you live is so inspiring and your pictures are so up lifting. Wish that you could post more often! Blessings to you and you family, Carolyn Gilbert
Just checking to see how you are after the storms!

Lovely! Lovely! Lovely as always!
I am so blessed to have found your blog Miss Mia!
It warms my heart to see you and your family working together in the garden and around your lovely cottage!
Many blessings to you and your family!
Rhonda
P.S. I love the photo of your mother tending to her roses!
That's a pretty cardi.
Dear Mia:
I just have to ask- are you and your family okay? After hearing about the hurricanes and all the horrible weather in the south, one of my first thoughts was of you and your family. Please just post a comment so we know how you are. We are praying for everyone who has been hit by this terrible weather. God bless!
Mrs. Blodgett
I'm stopping by to introduce myself! Not sure where I first stumbled across your blog, but I do so enjoy seeing a peak into your southern life through your wonderful photographs! I love history as well; especially the homeyness of women's lives and the simplicity of it. I grew up pretending I lived in 1836, and still love 19th century clothing.
From my experience sewing knits, it might be a mixed blessing to have your sewing machine out of order! Perhaps sewing it by hand was easier? Knits always seem to bunch up and act funky for me. But I really like the style and I just might have to look up the pattern! Maybe I'll even sew it by hand... :)
Blessings,
Janel
Hello Mia! Your blog is beautiful! I'm not sure you may have to read my comment because you have others to read! So, hop over to my blog anytime. It has much less traffic :) Your entire life intrigues me because its a far cry from mine! I mean I'm in school, far waya from home, etc. though I have a desire to be a home-maker. I'll be reading from now on. Thanks for reaching out!
Dear Mia,
Forgot to add this: I hope you liked mine too. Maybe we can follow each other! :) I'm in GA. What city are you in. U can email me at informsac@yahoo.co.uk to tell me! It would be fun to experience your life one day :)
ok one more! i love your pictures! can i include one on my blog? let me know so ic an take it off? :)
haha i keep on commenting! ok just one more: i thought your romans 12:2 chapter may be taken out of context? i thought world refers to the world as in the separation fo christians and non-christians. what do you think? you use it in the context of simple living.
From your blog, I know you enjoy participating in re-enactments, but have you heard of FREED? It is an african-american women's organization of civil war re-enactors - http://www.afroamcivilwar.org/programs/freed.html
I thought you might the link.

Everything about your blog is so cute! I love it! (:
It must be nice to have a garden, thanks for sharing.
Can I come visit??? Everything looks wonderful! I'm so impressed with you. There are not many young women who are on the path you are on into domestic womanhood. You are an inspiration to me as I raise my daughter. I love all of your pics.
Dear Mia, I had forgotten how lovely your blog is and how peaceful it helps me feel in this time of illness for me.
Thank you so much for this blessing, warm loving hugs from Vermont to you and your family....Mona
Your Spring lovliness is so beautiful! Happy Spring to you and to your family! Such beautiful photos!
OK, I don't remember how I got to this blog, but I'm glad I did! Beautiful pictures. I don't know you, but you seem like a godly woman after God's own heart :) Such a sweet testimony to the gentleness of our Savior. The Lord has someone special for you, just keep living your fullest to the Lord. There is much joy to gain in being patient for His perfect will :)
